One thing I've been learning is that I tend to get too serious about making art. I focus on wanting a pretty and polished looking end product. So, instead I'm trying to change my focus to the process and playing with that process. Then whatever the outcome is to be happy that I enjoyed the time spent making the piece.

As of July 12th I will have had Gemma at the barn for three months. I can't believe it's been that long already and yet it feels like no time at all. We have had some downs but mostly everything has been an up. Our time together is incredibly fun and she's helping give me a summer of happiness instead of sorrow.

I did so much art during May because of the constant rainy weather that I decided to break up the drawings from the paintings for the month into two different posts. All of the pieces (except one) in this post are watercolor or as I found out through reading about watercolor, opaque watercolors. I am not keen on the results because the opaque watercolor doesn't have the bright luminescent qualities of transparent watercolor. Therefore I didn't finish all of the pieces I had started because I was not having fun.

For May most of my drawing consisted of drawing mermaids for Mermay. Mermay is an even that Tom Bancroft hosts on Instagram. He encourages artists to draw mermaids and use the hashtag of #mermay. I decided to join in and do a few since I am still relatively new to Instagram and figured it could be something fun to participate in.

Through following Tara Leaver on Instagram, I found out about a new challenge that she started yesterday called 21 Days in My Art World. She had been hinting at it for a few weeks and I was curious what it would be about. Here is her explanation from her blog:

A few years ago I had the opportunity to join some friends for a Continuing Education Ceramic course. I jumped at it since I missed working with clay a lot. It ended up being an eye opener for me. What I learned through out the course was that I really didn't enjoy working with clay that much and I really don't enjoy working in 3-D. It's difficult for me to take something and mold it into a decent and recognizable shape and it's rather crude looking. Thus, I finally admitted to myself that ceramics isn't for me and is something I needed to let go of.

My apologies for lack of posting last week. Someone gifted me their cold so I was even more wiped out than I have been. Something had to get dropped from the to do list and since I couldn't put words together very well anyway....
With the release of episode 5 for Guild Wars 2 Living World Season 3 on May 8th, I thought I'd share my thoughts about it and the previous ones. This will be a very generalized sharing of my impressions since I prefer to keep things spoiler free for those who haven't had the pleasure of running the content yet.

I first caught wind of this challenge in Ravanel's Drawing Diary: January post and I really liked the idea of drawing thirty different plants. So I headed over to My Open Sketchbook to read Kay's (she's the creator of this challenge) post about it and download the image for the list. I started the challenge near the end of February and finished it near the end of April. There were some days I just wasn't in the mood to draw and others I didn't have time or was too exhausted. However, I persevered and completed it!

I remember catching Bill Nye the Science Guy on PBS back when I was in high school. It was by far my favorite educational TV show on science. I found Bill Nye to be fun and quirky which made the educational part fun. Plus being a visual learner it helps my understanding a lot when things are shown well along with the auditory explanation. Thus imagine my delight when I read a couple of weeks ago that Netflix had picked up Bill Nye to do another science show. What I didn't expect was that it would be up to watch so soon (I'll admit I don't stay up to date on all the entertainment happenings) and of course when I saw that Netflix had it available, I had to start watching.

The question that I tend to be asked the most is, "Are you going to ride?" And any variation there of. This is not one of my favorite queries because not only do I feel like it's putting pressure on me but it down right irritates me. Seriously, don't people realize that you can do more with a horse than ride it? Really who cares if I ride or not? That's between my horse and I. Plus there are so many other things that you can do together. Personally, I think that giving your horse a break from being ridden and then doing something else that you both can have fun with is good for the emotional and mental state of the horse.

This post isn't meant to sound as a complaint or whining. I am using it to help organize my thoughts on the whole leveling business in Lord of the Rings Online. I do realize that it could come off as sounding negative but again, that is not my intention. Maybe I'll be lucky and find the path that sounds the most fun.

If you've been keeping up with Moon's Meadow, you may remember my writing about adopting a horse named Gemma from Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue. If you don't recall reading about her or haven't been reading for long you may find out about how I came to adopt her in Opting to Adopt Part One and Opting to Adopt Part Two. Well, finally after almost a month we (BW, her friend, and I) were able to make the 740 mile (which equals to about 1190.91 kilometers) round trip to go get her on Wednesday, April 12.

As of Thursday March 30th the much requested Super Adventure Box (SAB) is back for players to enjoy in the land of Tyria with in Guild Wars 2. The activity will be available until April 19th. So there's plenty of time for payers to acquire whatever rewards their heart desires. Including the new Crimson Assassin weapons. If you're curious what they look like Dulfy has a gallery posted.

I found out from reading Ravalation that this week is Developer Appreciation Week! So being a gamer myself, I figured I'd join in on thanking the hard work of the developers that work so diligently on the games that I enjoy. Also a thank you to Ravanel for putting out the word!

Today I thought I'd share with you a process I learned of how to use conté crayons when I was in college. It is one of my favorite ways to use them for a drawing because sanguine is the dominate color which makes the drawing feel warm and inviting.

This month has seemed to be rather full of things happening and a lot of waiting. Thus I thought I'd take some time to review what filled the days.

When I saw the posting in my news feed on Facebook that the Spring Festival for LOTRO had started, I decided to go check it out. I was honestly hoping it would be as fun as I remember it being when I played a few years ago. Sadly I met with more frustration than fun...

As December flowed into January and January into February, the desire for Gemma never went away. I also did a search on HoP's Facebook page to see what more I could learn of her. What came about was support for what was in the blog post and any other postings they did about her to try and find her a home. Although what caught my attention more so were the older pictures of her. I could easily see the intelligence and innate friendliness in her personality. Those are two characteristics that I love to have in a horse and Cocoa spoiled me with.

I'm not entirely certain how I ended up on the trail that I have followed to this point but I do know that it branched off about two years ago. Facebook showed a page in one of their sponsor spots that caught my attention. The post showed an emaciated horse and the rescuers told a sad story of the poor animal's neglect. I decided that I wanted to see how this equine's future turned out so I clicked like and started following the organization.

Originally I wasn't going to take the time to post today because of a dentist appointment and getting ready for something tomorrow that is going to be the culmination of several months worth of waiting and hope (stay tuned for Monday's post because no matter the decision it will be the topic). However, doing something like this sounded like it should be simple enough.

It's not Friday but close enough. This seemed like a fun prompt and with everything going on currently, fun is needed. I am not saying that things are bad. It's more along the lines of life changes for both my husband and I. Mine is being saved for a later post once I know which direction I'm going.

The idea to do a drawing diary every month came from Ravanel the author of Ravalation. I started following her blog last August after my husband sent me her post about Playing Pokèmon GO When Chronically Ill because I have rheumatoid arthritis and we play the game too. Her drawing diaries have become something that I look forward to (not that her other posts aren't good also!). So since I am an artist the drawing diary has become a main idea for posts, thus you may look forward to them at least once a month.

Tuesday's aren't on my posting schedule but today is a different kind of day, for it marks the sixth month since Cocoa passed. So I thought I would share a bit (a lot) about the horse who was a part of my life for almost twenty years.

It's always difficult to start something, especially when it involves something like a blank page. At least it is for me. This apparently doesn't just include the snow white page of a new sketchbook, trying to come up with the opening sentence for a paper, or figuring out how to start an email. It also included starting this first blog post. Calling out the elephant in the room seems to have worked for it is started. Huzzah!
